Our Commitment
Music Tech Hub is committed to the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people who may interact with our resources, tools, and web applications. We take our responsibility in this area seriously and have designed our digital products with child safety as a core principle.
What Music Tech Hub Is
Music Tech Hub is a digital curriculum and professional development platform for teachers, music education hubs, music services, and schools.
Our resources are designed to be used by teachers, with children, in classroom or group settings. The responsible adult in the room is always the teacher or supervising professional.
How We Protect Children in Our Web Applications
Our browser-based music applications include specific design decisions to minimise data collection from children and young people:
No child accounts
Children do not create accounts, provide names, or share email addresses to access our applications. Access is granted through a session code generated by the teacher.
Session codes, not personal logins
A teacher generates a temporary session code (a random word and number sequence) which the whole class uses to enter a session. The code grants access to the application without identifying individual pupils.
No server-side storage of children’s work
When a child saves a project, it is downloaded directly to the device as a file. Nothing is transmitted to or stored on Music Tech Hub’s servers.
Advisory guidance on file naming
We display a notice at the point of saving encouraging children to use a class name, initials, or a non-identifying label rather than their full name.
Responsibilities of Teachers and Supervising Adults
When using Music Tech Hub web applications with children and young people, the teacher or supervising adult is responsible for:
- Ensuring the application is used in a safe, supervised environment
- Advising pupils not to enter personal information into any part of the application
- Managing how children save and name their project files
- Ensuring any school or organisation policies on digital tools and safeguarding are followed
Music Tech Hub web applications are designed to be used in line with standard school safeguarding and digital safety frameworks, including those set out in Keeping Children Safe in Education (DfE, 2025).
Online Safety
Our website and applications do not include:
- Social features, messaging, or chat functionality
- User-generated content that is publicly viewable
- Advertising or links to third-party commercial services aimed at children
We advise all schools and organisations to review Music Tech Hub resources in line with their own online safety and acceptable use policies before use with pupils.
